Discover the charming children's version of our popular design, the Ephesus Mini, inspired by the elegance and simplicity of the Ephesus Tee for adults. This pattern provides you step-by-step instructions to create an adorable cardigan for the little ones of the house.

It is worked from the top down, completely seamless. German Short Rows are used to shape the collar, and the yoke is decorated with a lace pattern that creates elegant and delicate vertical lines. Increases are strategically distributed along the yoke to guarantee a perfect fit. Once the yoke is completed, we proceed to separate the sleeves from the body. The sleeves and body are then continued to be worked in stockinette stitch.

The button band is worked together with the yoke and body, so there is no fussing with picking up stitches afterwards. You have two options to choose from: opening the buttonholes after completing the cardigan and sewing its edges for a neat finish or using snaps type buttons. Instructions for both options are available for your convenience.

The pattern is available in 6 children's sizes, ranging from 2 to 12 years old. It is advisable to select the size based on the chest and upperarm’s circumference measurements to best fit each child’s unique growth rate. The lengths of the sleeves, body and yoke depth can be modified to your personal preference.

About the pattern

Sizes: (A, B, C) [D, E, F] which approximately corresponds to (2 y.o., 4 y.o., 6 y.o.) [8 y.o., 10 y.o., 12 y.o.].

Finished circumference around the bust: approximately (61, 65, 69) [72, 76, 80] cm/(24.5, 26, 27.5) [28.75, 30.5, 32]”.

Positive ease: approximately 5 cm/2” to 15 cm/6”.

When choosing a size, it is advisable to take as reference a garment that currently fits the child well. Measure the circumference of this garment around the chest and then compare that measurement to the finished chest circumference indicated for the pattern. Choose the size that is the closest to that measurement to ensure an optimal fit.

Gauge: 21 stitches x 30 rounds (10 cm/4”) with main needles after blocking in stockinette stitch.

Before starting, it is important to make a swatch to verify that you achieve the desired gauge and that you like the texture of the fabric with the yarn and needles you are using. If you have more stitches than indicated in 10 cm/4”, you should try again going up a needle size. If you have fewer stitches than indicated in 10 cm/4”, you should go down a needle size. Difference in gauge will affect your garment’s finished measurements and final yardage.

Suggested needle size: 4 mm/US 6 circular needle, or size needed to obtain gauge. 3.5 mm/US 4 circular needle, or two sizes smaller than the main needle, to work the neckline, cuffs and hem. Cable lengths may vary as needed. To work small circumferences (such as neckline or sleeves) you may use double pointed needles, small circular needles or long circular needles using the Magic Loop method.
