The Polaris Sweater is knitted top down without seams. You start by knitting the collar in a circular pattern and then increase to form the shoulders. It is then divided into front and back pieces and knitted flat separately to make room for the sleeve opening. It is then knitted in a circular pattern again until the desired length is reached. Afterwards, the stitches for the sleeves are picked up. You have the option of leaving it with short sleeves and wearing it as a vest, or knitting long sleeves. It is also optional to use Short German Rows to shape the collar and to lengthen the back of the body.

Techniques used: increases and decreases, Standard Cast-Off, Twisted Yarn Cast-On, Cable Cast-On, I-cord Cast-Off (optional), German Short Rows (optional). All techniques used are explained in the instructions and in videos linked from this pattern.

Finished Garment Measurements : (93, 102, 113) [122, 133, 142] {153, 162} cm approximate bust circumference.

Recommended ease: between 10 cm and 20 cm of positive clearance.

Gauge: 18 sts x 26 rows (10 cm) with main needles in stocking st and blocked.

Suggested Needles: 5mm/US 8 main circular needle, or whatever size you need to achieve the required tension. 4.5mm/US 7 circular needle, or one size smaller than main needles for bottom edge and cuffs.
